Manipur Health Minister, L Jatantakumar Singh launched National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) in the state as a part of World Hepatitis Day, 2019 on July 28.
The minister also inaugurated Model Treatment Centre one each at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). He said that the newly opened Model Treatment Centre will provide free diagnostic facility, free treatment and free medicines for hepatitis patients.
Speaking at the event held at RIMS Jubilee Hall, Jayantakumar maintained that Hepatitis has become a dreadful disease which needs serious attention. He also said that it is the peak time to work for its total eradication from earth. The Ministry of Health, Government of India is targeting to eradicate Hepatitis by the year 2030, the minister added.
Jayantakumar then asserted that people living in the urban areas are more or less aware of Hepatitis. At this moment there is need for focusing towards those who are living at remote places as they are less aware about the disease. In this regard, health staffs who are working in the field were advised to perform their duties with sincerity and dedication. The minister appealed media persons to propagate awareness to the public regarding hepatitis.
The minister said that the government is always ready to provide infrastructures and equipments to develop heath service in the state. "Without peoples’ participation and cooperation all efforts of the government will be fruitless", the minister added.
Speaking as president of the function, A Radhabinod Sharma, IAS, Joint Secretary, Health, Government of Manipur said that India is one of the top 5 countries with the registration of maximum hepatitis patients. He said that opening of two Model Treatment Centres is a proud moment for the state. He also suggested for a Sentinel Survey of Hepatitis C. The observance was also attended by Dr S Manikanta Singh, SMD, NHM, Manipur; Professor A Santa Singh, Director RIMS; Professor Ch Arunkumar Singh, MS, RIMS as guests of honour.
