The Mokokchung District Blood Donors Association (MVBDA), in collaboration with the 12 Assam Rifles, celebrated National Voluntary Blood Donors Day at the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) Conference Hall. Held under the theme “Share Life, Give Blood” and the slogan “20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank You, Blood Donors,” the event emphasised the vital role of blood donation in saving lives.
Lanuakum, Deputy Chairman of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), served as the guest of honour and highlighted the importance of blood as a life-sustaining resource. In his address, he stressed that blood is a vital connective tissue essential for maintaining good health and survival. Lanuakum also pointed out that the lifespan of stored blood is only 120 days, stating the need for continuous replenishment through regular blood donations. He urged the MVBDA, medical professionals, and social organizations to raise awareness in the community about the significance of blood donation, using various media platforms to spread the message.
Earlier in the program, Molo Jamir, President of MVBDA, spoke about the importance of the day. He explained that National Voluntary Blood Donors Day, observed annually on October 1, serves to raise awareness about the critical need for blood in saving lives. Jamir encouraged individuals who may be unaware of the benefits of donating blood to consider becoming regular donors, stressing that it is a life-saving act that brings significant positive changes to society.
The program was chaired by Bendangtemsu Ozukum, with Makshi Jamir, District Program Officer (DAPCU), delivering the vote of thanks. The invocation was offered by Jungshi Aier, Home Evangelist of Mopungchuket Union, Mokokchung, and the benediction was pronounced by Wapang, Chaplain of IMDH.
As part of the celebration, a special blood donation drive was conducted at the IMDH Blood Bank, where individuals from various walks of life came forward to donate blood. According to Molo Jamir, the drive attracted many donors; however, after thorough screening, a total of 12 units of blood were collected.
