Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu today exuded confidence that NPF would win 12-15 seats in the upcoming February 27 Nagaland polls.

Talking to the media persons on the sideline of a coordination meeting today at Yorüba village in the presence of NPF candidate Sovenyi for 18 Chozuba Assembly Constituency, Dr Liezietsu said the NPF has fielded 22 official candidates this time for the polls.

He said the party had fielded less number of candidates this time, adding that situation has compelled them to focus only on “winnable candidates” this time, for which, the party ticket has been awarded to only 22 candidates.

He said that despite NPF facing a set-back in the recent past, the party is not disheartened by such development but will stand firm on its foundation and strive to overcome it.

On being asked about the claim of the pre-poll understanding for post-poll alliance, he made the stand clear that the NPF has no pre-poll alliance with any other political parties, and the party will have to see the situation first as far as post-poll alliance is concern.

Without naming any particular party, he argued that other political parties are hardly taking the agenda of democratic right, unique history and culture of Nagas to the electorate.

Declaring that NPF is not going against any other political parties, he however, argued that they (other political parties) have been spreading only propagandas, thereby disturbing the minds of the people.

He said that Naga people are now clever enough to take a wise decision.

NPF is the regional political party in Nagaland which is deeply rooted in the unique history of the Naga people, he said adding that NPF represents the identity and aspiration of the Naga people.

He urged that it is high time for everyone to realize the ground realities and speak the truth. He said that NPF will continue to strive to work for solution to the Indo-Naga political problem, a solution which is honorable, acceptable and inclusive.

Dr. Liezietsu said that NPF will be always there to protect the democratic rights of the Naga people, cultural heritage, safeguard the interest of the people and to defend “our faith.”
