Preserve unique culture, identity: Pillai

UKHRUL | March 5 : "The world is a global village", said GK. Pillai, Union Home Secretary Government of India while addressing a public gathering at Ukhrul Tangkhul Naga (TNL) ground. Pillai was speaking during the 2nd Manipur Tribal Cultural Exchange Programme Organized by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and hosted by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) from 4th March to 6th March. GK Pillai (IAS), Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA), GOI while speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest pointed out that the fast paced development of the world these days including India through rapid changing development in sophisticated technologies like the internet, mobile phones, transportation, face-books have pre-occupied this world into "a global village". The Home Secretary asserted that the tribals of Manipur State are well known by their "unique preservation" of "distinct Cultural Identity" through-out the country.
GK. Pillai, who was on his second visit to Ukhrul assured the people of the Ukhrul that within a short span of time, weeks, or months Ukhrul is going to have a world class standard stadium. In an exclusive interactive Press Interview before the luncheon, the Home Secretary also said that the present Indo-Naga Peace Process is in smooth progress. The VIP was accompanied by the Manipur State Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, DS. Poonia (IAS) and Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner (DC) N. Asholk Kumar (IAS). Tribal Social frontier Organizations including the ATSUM, United Naga Council (UNC), Kuki Inpi Manipur, KIM, Tangkhul Naga Long, TKS the Host Students' Organization and many other Social Organizations, Public leaders and the general mass led the way on behalf of the common men.
Dr. John Pilmate, Adviser, ATSUM while extending his keynote address opposed the Manipur State Government policy underlining to diminish or degrade the Powers and functioning of the Deputy Commissioners Offices in the Districts of Manipur, the illegally introduced 200 Points Roster including the State Posts Vacancies by the Government is strongly opposed, the tribal leader said.
The Tribal Cultural Exchange Program 20011 under the theme, "Enlivening Our Cultural Dynamics" was kicked-off in the midst of thousands and thousands of people gathering at the TNL ground with representatives from the 32 Hill Tribal Communities of Manipur State.
The inaugural function was started after an invocation by Rev. Aping Khamrang, Pastor, UBC. Welcome speech was delivered by Thomas Taishya, President ATSUM and thereafter Cultural Dance display was presented from ChuraChandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul tribal dance troupes. Short speeches were also delivered by DS Poonia, Chief Secretary, DC Ukhrul the functional President and Guest of Honour and a vote of thanks was delivered by the TKS President Mr. Wungnaoshang Shimray.
