Thousands pay tribute to popular Naga public figure

Kohima | March 2 : Thousands of people from all walks of life paid rich homage to late Dr. S. Hekha Mao today at his private residence at Dzüvürü, Kohima. Late Dr. Hekha met with a fatal accident at his private residence and expired on February 28. The day of his death fall on the same day of his retirement from government servant in 2007 and a day prior to his 61st birth anniversary. Late Dr. Mao is popularly known for his humility and kind hearted nature. Various organizations in their condolence message said nothing call fill the vacuum of his death and the time he spend working for the people will be an inspiration and will continue to uphold his legacy.
“He was an ideal father, a friend, mentor and a man of integrity, honest and God fearing”, said late Hekha’s eldest son who arrived from France. He was emotionally down to express his fathers’ ideal personality saying that it is not a home coming for his family to say “goodbye’ to his father. Accepting the truth with painful heart, he thanked the congregation for waiting the family members to gather to pay tribute to his late father.
He also promised not to let late Dr. Hekha’s legacy down and also not to disappoint Mao’s community and the society at large. He begged for forgiveness on behalf of his deceased father and he was hopeful that the love and respect people has for his father will continue to remain in them. He thanked all the people concerned for their valuable service rendered during the untimely demise of his father. It is the wish of late Dr. Hekha’s family that the students of Modern Academy follow the footprint of late Dr. Hekha, he added.
United Naga Council, Naga women union Manipur, ANSAM, Committee for alternative arrangement, department of veterinary & Animal husbandry Nagaland, Nagaland Veterinary association, Mao Council, Moa union, Kohima, Mao officers’ union, Dzüvürü colony, Shajouba village council, Mao Baptist church (MBC), Kohima, Modern college, Guwahati farmers’ association, Mao academy, Naga people’s organization, Mao welfare association and Board member MBC Kohima delivered condolence message at the funeral service.
Among other messages read out included Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, All Nagaland college principals’ forum, Naga students’ Federation (NSF), Angami students’ union (ASU), senior pastor, Kidima Baptist church, Rtd director vety & AH Dr. N. Meyase, Chairman college managing board, Dr. Tseibu Rutsa, Mountain view Christian college, Atuo Mezhur, managing director, Mezhur higher secondary school, Mosa Koza, chairman Sodzülhou village Dimapur, Naga farmers association, Cherry blossom, Tangkhul Union Kohima, Poumai public union Senapati, South Naga union, Mount Hermon school, Holy family school Kohima and Mao union Imphal.
Later, late Hekha was laid to rest at his private plot at AG Colony.
 
  • Born on March 1-03-21950 at Charangho (Shajouba) village under Senapati district, Manipur Lt. Dr. Hekha Mao is believed to be the first among the villagers who ardently toiled and pursued modern education braving the harsh environment.
  • He joined government service in 1973 as VAS veterinary hospital Kohima and in the meantime, obtained his degree in Master of Science in 1982. He served at different positions till he retired as Director, Vety & A.H in February 2007.
  • He also served as Deacon at Mao Baptist church, general secretary in Ashikho Daili Academic excellence award trust and a member of Mao academy until his last breathe.
  • He was the founder of Modern Academy and Modern college Kohima in 1997, founding member of Mao market and Bethany boys hostel building Kohima.
  • Lt.Dr.Mao is survived with his wife, Ashikho Kaisa, five sons and two daughters.

Chief Minister mourns late Dr Hekha demise
 
Dimapur, March 2 (MExN): The Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has mourned the tragic demise of Dr. S Hekha Mao on the evening of February 28.
In a condolence note, the CM stated that late Dr Hekha was accomplished academician. Even during his student days, he was known to be sincere and hard working, who braved the hostile environment of those days to pursue modern education. After rendering 33 years of dedicated service to the government, he retired on February 28, 2007 as the Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry.
Late Dr Hekha was also an active social worker throughout his life.    He served in various social capacities and in student bodies as well in the Church and was a deacon in the Mao Baptist Church Kohima. He was also founder the Modern Academy and Modern College Kohima in 1977. He was also serving member of the committee for alternative arrangements (UNC) till the time of his demise. The CM also stated that his wife joins him in conveying out deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. “We pray that God will comfort and grant them solace and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May his departed soul rest in peace.”
