RPF of NFR arrested touts for illegal booking, sale of train tickets

Guwahati, February 26 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been keeping a close watch on the touting activity to prevent illegal selling of Railway tickets and made several arrest in the recent past, an official release said. 

In one such drive, the RPF raided three shops in two different locations on February 21 and 22 and recovered 47 railway e-tickets worth more than Rs 23 thousand 

 In this regard three persons were arrested and prosecuted under section 143 of the Railways Act, informed the release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Sabyasachi De.  

On February 18, on the basis of the information regarding touting activities by a shop “Mallika Colour House” at Chapatoli, Dibrugarh,  the CIB team/Tinsukia of RPF conducted a decoy check on the said shop by purchasing a Railway e-ticket in the name of one staff. 

The ticket was generated by the shop owner illegally by using personal ID and the team raided the premise and recovered 14 Railway e-Tickets, worth Rs. 8117.00 (approx).

 One Laptop and one mobile handset with two SIM’s were also seized during the raid and one person was arrested and taken into custody, the release said. 

Again, on February 22, two shops “Ankur Online Digital Service Point” and “Arunoday Kendra Digital Sewa Common Services Centre” were raided under the supervision of ASC/RPF/Dimapur and recovered 21 Railway e-tickets, worth Rs 8100.00 (approx) with one mobile phone with SIM card and 12 Railway e-tickets, worth Rs. 7760.00 (approx) with one mobile phone with SIM card respectively. 

“The tickets were generated by the shop owners illegally by using personal ID. All the items found during the raid were seized and both the shop owners were arrested and taken into custody” the release said.  

Unauthorized carrying on of business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets is a punishable offence under section 143 of the Railways Act, it added.
